SMASH!

-via Lydia M., AbsoluteFITness Challege 2.0 participant

Sometimes the most fun things are also really beneficial, fitness-wise.

Here’s a slo-mo video of me smashing the 20-lb smashball — I only did it once for the camera, but Marie had us doing it over and over for 50 seconds at a time in last Tuesday’s AbsoluteFIT class, and BOY does that work out both your core and your aggression!

Gotta Start Somewhere

via – Lydia M., AVAC AbsoluteFIT Contributor

We’re doing the AbsoluteFIT challenge 2.0!

Friday night, we got together in the Cafe: a group of the people who are doing the AbsoluteFIT challenge. We learned what to expect, we got some kickoff advice and some schwag, and we got to meet our fellow challengers.

Each of us has our reasons — and I’ll be telling others’ stories in addition to my own. Each of us has our goals; mine include major changes in my nutrition situation. Each of us will be going for a personal best.

And me?
I’m gonna be writing about it, every step of the way, starting with … this:

Work with me, people. And if you’re doing the challenge, share your thoughts — we can all do better if we work together!!

It’s a Great Time to do the ‘D’

Continuing on in our regular series “The Vail Blog” – A monthly discussion on the “ABC’s” of discipline in health, fitness and wellness.

jackie-vailThe Vail Blog – “D”

When creating a diet plan, we can learn a lot from the letter D. From dried fruit and nuts to vitamin D, make sure you are defining healthy choices on a daily routine.  A daily plan and determination will make the commitment for discipline easier to conquer!

A quick and easy idea for a snack is to have dried fruit and nuts available in your pantry. They are loaded with wonderful nutrients and a handful is perfect in offering controlled intake.

driedfruit.jpgWhen choosing your fitness routine try to include some time outside. Vitamin D through natural sunlight is a wonderful way to ensure you get the health benefits necessary for beautiful skin!

∴ A great explanation of Vitamin D and why it’s important for us.

Is dried fruit good or bad? A detailed article on this debate.

VALENTINE’S TEA

via – Mary Ann Smith, AVAC® Senior Wellness Director

tea1AVAC’s annual Senior Valentine’s Day Tea was held February 15 at member, Judy Baughman’s home. Judy stepped up to help since Shirley Lee, hostess for many years, had knee surgery. And let me tell you… in spite of short notice Judy is an incredible hostess!

Judy had a beautiful arrangement of tables, lace, roses, plate chargers and incredible helpers.  Ed Laveroni and Dick Baughman served us English Breakfast, Earl Grey and Good Earth tea.

tea3The guest attending brought a variety of delicious dishes including cucumber and chicken sandwiches, appetizers, scones and sweet treats.

The most remarkable thing about these events is that different people attend each time and we get to know more about each guest. Let us know what other kinds of events you would like to have on our schedule for a social gathering.

So Long to Going It Solo!

AbsoluteFIT keeps you from going nuts out there on the road alone …

lydia-highway

Remember I said I’m training for a half-marathon? That means I’m doing a lot — a LOT — more running these days. Now — running is a great fitness activity, if you’ve got the knees for it, but it is also an essentially solo activity, at least for me.

I don’t run with a partner; I don’t like worrying about pacing or distance or sometimes having to walk and expecting them to do exactly what I want to do — and I don’t mind being alone with my thoughts (I don’t run outdoors with music; I think earbud-wearing while running alone is unwise). But it can be isolating, and occasionally lonely.

So it was with great happiness that I went to Marie’s 9:00 AbsoluteFIT Strength and Endurance session on Tuesday — my people were there! My workout buddies, my comrades! It was wonderful to be back among friends, everyone working at their own level toward their own goals, TOGETHER. I’ve discovered along the way that one of the best things about AbsoluteFIT is this camaraderie — and I’m so glad I have at least a couple of sessions per week to mix into my training schedule. Wouldn’t give this up, no matter what!

Better, stronger, faster together, with AbsoluteFIT!
