Lydia’s AbsoluteFIT Journey: Use It or Lose It! (And Then Get It Back)

I woke up this morning and attempted to stand … and was met with nearly audible squeaks of protest from several different muscle groups (calves, inner thigh, shoulders, that really low abdominal muscle).

It’s hard to get back to the gym after time away — but so good!

“Aaagh, Marcy!” I muttered to myself, remembering her gleeful cackle as she put us through one torturous exercise after another during Core Cardio yesterday morning.

But I know it’s not Marcy’s fault I’m sore all over — that’s just proof that she’s doing her job (and loving it! a real, real lot! heh). It’s me who did this to myself: I was out of the studio for a full week, first because my sister was visiting and we needed Sister Time (e.g. eating popcorn & watching Labyrinth, strolling around Target for two hours, making chocolate chip cookies, lounging by the pool, etc.), and then because once she left, I straight-up bagged on a workout to go have brunch and mimosas with some other moms just cause the kids were back in school and we could. So, on Monday, I was rusty, but ready to return.

And this morning, there were several people in Marie’s Strength & Endurance session who were coming off of longer hiatuses (weeks, or months) — it was tough for them, to be sure, but everyone was glad to see them back, and they were so happy to be there.

Moral of the story: Breaks are pretty much inevitable, but the important thing is to come back when the break’s over.
